Okay.. This is annoying me. I love MMOs. I do. In case you didn’t know.
I’ve been excited for ArcheAge for a while, and now that it’s in early closed beta for North America, I’ve gotta talk about this.
The first picture is the Ferre during the early stages of the Korean beta, and the second is the Ferre in Russia’s beta. (The most current version of the game)
A game has a nice, feral-looking animal race and the closer to English release, they turn them into creepy “uncanny valley” catgirls? They kept some of the original features of the race that make NO SENSE for how the Ferre are now. They have thick necks- more towards the back that look great with the more feral faces, but with the creepy giant-eyed ladies we have now looks kinda horrid.
With the help of sliders you can get some semblance of the original face, but it’s still furless on the breasts. How is that biologically necessary? They’re a nomadic race, normally staying on savannah-like plains. How would exposing really sensitive skin to the hot sun make any sense?
Even the males were humanized in the re-design. Instead of lithe hunters, they’re now muscular and strangely shaped. Their 4-legged run animation took the brunt of the hit, looking very awkward.
Is this really what the western audience wants? Who did they ask? Definitely not me.
